Sculptural Choreography

On View November 4, 2026
Stairway Gallery

Sculptural Choreography features twenty works from the permanent collection that will serve as catalysts for new dance pieces.

Co-selected by Patrice Giasson (Alex Gordon Curator of the Art of the Americas) and Assistant Professor Yael Levitin Saban, the exhibition includes works by some of the most influential sculptors of the second half of the 20th century, including Alexander Calder, Jose de Rivera, Ruth Landshoff Vollmer, Sol LeWitt, Luis Perelman, Kenneth Snelson, Jesús Rafael Soto, William Talbot, and Gunther Uecker.

Under Saban’s guidance, students from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance will translate the shapes, volumes, and static or dynamic qualities of the artworks into original choreographies. Saban will film these performances and integrate them into short videos, which will be showcased in the gallery.

Curated by Patrice Giasson, this exhibition is funded by the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art.
