backstory: Putting on my fundraising hat for a minute
Okay. I know I said I wasn’t going to write to you while I was on vacation, AND I try hard not to ask you for money using backstory, but this just came up…
So many of you have been supportive of what we do at the Neuberger for a long, long time… And, well, on the off chance that some of you have some money burning a hole in your pocket, I wanted to make sure you knew about this opportunity which offers excellent tax incentives. Read on if you are a New York State resident, and if when you contribute to charitable organizations you contribute as an individual, not through a foundation.
We have this really great program here called SUNY Impact. It is a New York State tax credit program that allows New York State residents who make a qualified donation through the SUNY Impact Foundation to receive a New York State tax credit for 85% of their gift amount. And you can designate that support to directly benefit the Neuberger Museum of Art.
To qualify, donors must have at least $10,000 in New York State personal tax liability and apply through the SUNY Impact Foundation. Applications are approved on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a cap on the available credits, so it’s important to apply quickly! The deadline is September 30. If you have a higher tax liability, you may be eligible to contribute up to $100,000 through this program.
We hope you’ll consider maximizing your contribution— this is a unique opportunity, and the program is set to expire after 2028.
For any questions, please email Mark Daley at mark.daley@purchase.edu.
With gratitude for your support and your consideration,
Tracy Fitzpatrick
Director, Neuberger Museum of Art
The Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art and The SUNY Impact Foundation cannot advise you on your personal tax situation or liabilities– for questions about how this program might impact you, please consult your tax preparer or a tax attorney. Only individuals can participate in the SUNY Impact Program; organizational and business entities are not qualified. Donations must be paid through personal funds: mandatory IRA distributions, donor-advised funds, family foundations, and other tax-sheltered vehicles cannot be used for participation. SUNY Impact can accept payments by stock, credit card, or wire transfer. SUNY Impact cannot accept checks or cash. SUNY Impact typically prorates qualified contributions– meaning donors who apply to give $10,000 may be approved for a lower amount.
