backstory: Worth celebrating
Earlier this month, I had the great pleasure of attending ArtsWestchester’s Arts Awards Luncheon, their fiftieth one! I always enjoy these events because the awardees are so diverse and so deserving, and their speeches are so heartfelt.
I was particularly impressed with the We Art One Artist Collective, which received the Sophia Abeles Arts Education Award, created by Lucille Werlinich. Lucille spoke beautifully about the Collective and also about her mother, Sophia Abeles, for whom the award is named. I am always impressed by Lucille and was so grateful to be sitting at her table, right next to her during the event. Thanks, Lucille, for your longtime generosity to the community, and especially to Purchase College over so many years.
