Heating Plant Boiler Upgrades
Working to keep us warm during those cold months, this project will replace our aging boilers to better more energy efficient units.
Project Updates as of March 23, 2026
Our contractor Maric Mechanical, Inc. has been hard at work getting the site ready for the three new boilers. The old non-working boilers have been removed and new concrete pads for the new units are being poured. The work is scheduled to be completed before our next heating season, this October.
Project Overview
Purchase College has three High Temperature Hot Water boilers located in our Main Heating Plant which were installed in 2004. Two of these are rated at 50 million BTU’s, while the third is rated at 30 million BTU’s. These boilers are used to provide HTHW to the campus providing us heating during the Winter season. After nineteen years of service one of the boilers developed numerous tube leaks forcing us to shut down this boiler. Previous attempts to repair it proved unsuccessful. A second boiler also failed, and the third boiler is showing similar signs of tube leakage. We need to replace the tubes and make the necessary repairs otherwise this will prevent us from being able to generate sufficient HTHW to provide heat and domestic hot water to the campus buildings.
We have installed a temperory boiler to provide us heat until the new boilers are installed.
