Stephanie Sanchez ’21 Takes on Global Migration
That is, pursuing the topic in graduate school at the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science this fall.
Stephanie Sanchez ’21 is pursuing a master’s degree in International Migration and Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she’s researching the intersection of immigration and the labor market.
The IMPP program examines some of today’s most urgent and complex issues shaping borders, neighborhoods, and lives. Stephanie is among a broad spectrum of standout students with diverse backgrounds who are learning rigorous, multidisciplinary approaches to how nations and global systems respond to migration.
The prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science draws policy experts from across the European Union and the European Institute. Its graduates work at organizations including the United Nations, NGOs, research institutes, and think tanks.
Stephanie’s passion for global economics grew from a strong, relevant liberal arts studies program here in the School of Humanities, where she double-majored in Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies and Language and Culture, with a minor in Linguistics.
Her senior thesis, “Public Transportation as an Agent of Modernization and Urban Order,” examined the impact of the first cable cars on communities surrounding Mexico City.
Leandro Benmergui, Associate Professor of History and Stephanie’s former advisor, remarked on the universal skills so necessary in today’s job market—critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, research, empathy, and communications, to name a few—that Stephanie mastered while enrolled here.
“Stephanie represents the very best of what our students can achieve when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged. She left Purchase not only with academic excellence, but with a powerful sense of responsibility to others.”
Before attending LSEPP, Stephanie served as Program Manager at Neighbors Link, a Westchester, NY-based nonprofit organization that provides education, employment, and legal services to immigrant families.
