Andres Cordoba ’19 Awarded Distinguished Fellowship for Gifted Poets
Cordoba has been named a 2025 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Fellow.
Andres Cordoba ’19 was among five writers to receive the fellowship, which is part of the Poetry Foundation’s mission to showcase and celebrate exceptional young poets and recognize their contributions to the literary field.
The $27,000 prize awarded by the Chicago-based organization to each fellow is intended to support them in the development of their craft and is one of the most substantial awards offered to emerging poets in the United States.
Fellowship recipients are also invited to submit their work to the renowned publication, Poetry Magazine, and to participate in the O, Miami Poetry Festival.
“Each of these young writers is exemplary for both their creative and social practices,” said Poetry editor Adrian Matejka. “They are authoring important poems and supporting their local communities at a moment when we need art and activism desperately. We are thrilled to honor these five gifted poets.”
The fellowships were established in 1989 by the Indianapolis philanthropist Ruth Lilly and expanded in 2013 with a gift from the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Memorial Fund.
