backstory: Pride

Our founding patron, Roy R. Neuberger, believed passionately in supporting artists who reflected the full breadth of human experience. He championed work that others overlooked. He collected across boundaries of race, gender, geography, and style, recognizing that great art comes from many places, and many kinds of people.

That legacy lives on in our collection, where multiplicity is the norm. Some of those multitudes are LGBTQ+ artists, many of whom challenged the status quo, broke rules, and spoke truths the world wasn’t always ready to hear. That same commitment to supporting diverse voices and bold expression lives on not just in the objects that fill our galleries, but in the values that shape our work every day.

Pride is, after all, about showing up as you are… and making space for everyone else to do the same.
