backstory50: Juneteenth

All this year these backstory messages have focused on the celebration of the Museum’s 50th anniversary, focusing on today through the lens of the past.

Researching and revealing our histories is one of the most important things that we do, in the academy and in the academic museum. Today, I want to take a moment away from telling the Museum’s history to honor a different past as marked by Juneteenth, the very definition of the importance of knowing our histories and relying on them to inform our present.

Tell your stories. Say them out loud to others. Evils of the past are prone to repeat if forgotten.
