backstory: Talented young local artists

This Friday evening, the Neuberger will host local Congressman Jamaal Bowman, Ed.D. and the awards presentation ceremony for the 16th Congressional District’s Art Competition.

Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives organizes a national Congressional Art Competition, otherwise known as The Artistic Discovery Contest. Congressman Bowman organized the contest for students in grades 9 to 12 who either reside or attend high school in the district. More than 60 entries will be displayed in the Museum’s South Gallery for the evening. The students – along with their families and friends – are invited to attend and the Congressman will present the awards. The winning student will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year and may have the opportunity to travel to the Capitol for a Congressional Art Reception. The second and third place winners will also have their artwork framed and displayed in Representative Bowman’s Washington, DC and District offices.

I’m so glad to be able to celebrate the creativity of so many of our local high schoolers.
