Q+A with PWSW Aidan Kushner ’23

Premieres new play Better Friends on campus!

Playwriting and Screenwriting senior, Aidan Kushner is putting on an independent production of his play, Better Friends.

Why did you decide to independently produce this play?

I produced it because no one else was going to do it. But I’ve had people helping me like my stage manager and even the actors, so it hasn’t been too difficult.

How long did it take you to put the production together?

It took basically all of fall semester to get it together. Almost all the original cast and crew quit and even some of the second rounds of people quit or dropped out of school or other various things came up for them. One of them had back surgery. So, it took a whole semester to get everyone on board.

What was the biggest hurdle you encountered when planning for it?

The biggest hurdle was probably the mainstage production of The Attic. They took such a high number of actors. Everyone had to keep their schedules open for that and they couldn’t help me with this. They also took my original show weekend.

What’s one thing you want people to take away from watching this?

I want people to take away that theater can be fun. It doesn’t have to be a heavy, deep experience. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I just want people to come and have fun. I feel like that experience is missing from Purchase theater.

Featuring Olivia Perrone, Mauricio Gonzalez, Morgan Reichberg, Lily Wolpert, and Matt Forletti in Better Friends, written and directed by Aidan Kushner. There will be geese, hot dogs, and piss jars.

The show runs March 30–April 1 at 8pm in Southside (inside CCS next to the C-Store).
