backstory: Great Grant News

2023 is off to a great start!

Today, the National Endowment for the Arts announced that it has awarded the Neuberger Museum a $30,000 grant in support of our new performance art exhibition, Hard Return: 9 Experiments for this Moment.

Hard Return is co-curated by acclaimed performance artist Kate Gilmore and performance art scholar Jonah Westerman, both of whom are on the Purchase College faculty. We’re so glad to have these two friends and colleagues collaborating with us. Jonah’s scholarship is exceptional and I’m pretty sure that this is the very first time that a world-renowned performance artist like Kate has curated a performance art exhibition.

The show opens on February 1 and will be made up of nine diverse projects—each on view for one week. The artists will participate in public lectures and conversations. Purchase students will serve as interns and work as performers and production managers thanks to the support of Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art board members Paul Zukowsky and Ivan Bart. And audience members from both on- and off-campus will be able to participate in person and virtually. See the schedule and learn more here.

You won’t want to miss this show.
