backstory: Big Birthdays

We’ve got some big birthdays coming up!
The first of these is the 50th anniversary of the Friends of the Neuberger Museum of Art. Yup, Friends, you’re turning 50! Founded in 1972, the “Friends” is its own official not-for-profit organization that provides financial and advisory support to the museum and me.

We’ll be celebrating the Friends in a variety of ways, the first of which is a brand new installation that will take over a good portion of the museum. In that show, we’ll be featuring works that have come into our collection over time through the efforts of the Friends. There will be some signature works as well as lots and lots of objects that haven’t been seen in a while. The show opens up officially in March but portions of it will be on view sooner, for example, in our Stairway Gallery, which normally holds a selection of works in the collection from Africa. Many of those objects from Africa will be re-installed throughout the building as part of the Friends 50th exhibition. Stay tuned for more on the reinstallation of our objects from Africa after the Friends 50th show closes.
