backstory: One of my favorite objects

One of the great pleasures of my work is being able to spend time looking around in our art storage area, which I don’t get to do nearly as often now that I am director as I used to when I was a curator.
I always see new things and am reminded of things I’ve forgotten. This morning I saw, again, an amazing work in our collection, a cocktail table by the artist Robert Watts in a most unusual shape. Watts, best know for his work with the Fluxus movement, had a varied art practice much of which included food imagery. You probably don’t think of us having much furniture in our collection, but we do have some wonderful pieces.

We’ll install the work some time after the New Year. It’s a definite must see.
