backstory: Dash

Earlier today in our staff meeting, Chief Preparator David Bogosian was describing his experience working with some of our graduate art history students on a project they are preparing for the Open Classroom, the space in the museum in which we collaborate on innovative projects with our faculty and students.
I asked if he would share the experience with you. He writes:

“So exciting to witness the enthusiasm of the students of the M+ graduate museum studies program installing their exhibition centered on a single object from our collection, Barbara Ségal’s Dash, a mixed stone replica of the classic detergent bottle, supported by ephemera loaned by the artist and period advertising. Working together with them to option details and nuances of installation has afforded conversational exchange that really takes me back to when museum processes were a new and open field to me. It’s rewarding to be taken to that place and to see them launch their careers from the other end of the timeline.”

The project is being installed now. We look forward to sharing it with you when we reopen.
