backstory: Youth and ingenuity

At dinner over the weekend, after being told I had put too much ricotta in the lasagna (homemade noodles, yes) my soon-to-graduate-high-schooler mentioned that one of his classmates had been interviewed on Good Morning America.
“For what?” “We’re building a Minecraft version of our school.” He and his peers are creating a virtual replica of the high school they love and, inhabiting it as game players, ingeniously attempting to ever so slightly bridge the deep gap created by social distancing in a platform within which they all grew up. According to GMA, some of the students are even thinking that maybe, if they can’t get back to school by the end of the year, they might hold prom and graduation in the Minecraft version of their school.
