backstory: Where in the World in the Neuberger?

Right in our own backyard again, but this time at the Katonah Museum of Art.
In fact, for that show, Sparkling Amazons: Abstract Expressionist Women of the 9th St. Show, I wrote my very first exhibition review … for ArtsWestchester’s ArtsNews. Running through January 26, 2020, the Show includes one of the Neuberger’s most prized works, Helen Frankenthaler’s Mount Sinai, a 1956 stain painting Roy R. Neuberger purchased in 1957 from the artist through the Tibor De Nagy Gallery in New York. It was one of the first works Roy donated to establish the Neuberger in 1969, and is one of our favorite objects to have on view in our galleries. And another “Neuberger treat” I found in the show—Grace Hartigan’s Showcase, on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art which purchased the work back in 1956 using funds provided by Roy and his wife, Marie.

Check out my write up about the show in this month’s installment of ArtsNews.
