Appeals Policy

Students who are not offered admission may submit a formal appeal requesting that the admissions committee reconsider their decision based on new or updated information.

Appeals are reviewed based on space availability by major and can never be guaranteed. Decisions for programs requiring talent-based assessments, such as auditions or portfolio reviews, are final, and appeals will not be considered.

Appeal Submission Guidelines:

  • All appeal requests must be submitted within 30 days of receiving notification of the original decision.
  • Appeals must be submitted via email directly to admissions@purchase.edu with the subject line Appeal Request.
  • Appeals must include:
    • New, previously undisclosed information that could materially impact the admissions decision.
    • A clear explanation of why this information was not included in the original application submission.

Examples of New Information:

  • Significant academic improvement (e.g., updated grades or test scores).
  • Notable achievements or awards earned since the original application.
  • Documentation of extenuating circumstances that impacted academic performance and were not previously disclosed (e.g., medical issues, family emergencies, or other significant life events).

All supplemental documentation, such as updated transcripts or letters of support, must be submitted as PDFs or scanned attachments in the appeal email.

Important Notes:

Decisions for programs requiring talent-based assessments, such as auditions or portfolio reviews, are final, and appeals will not be considered.
Appeals submitted without new information will not be reviewed.
Requests submitted by a parent or guardian will be disregarded. Appeals must come directly from the applicant.
Appeals are contingent upon space availability in the requested major or program. Once a program reaches capacity, no appeals for that program can be granted.
Notification of a final decision will be provided in writing within 4–6 weeks of submission.
All appeal decisions are final and cannot be further contested.

We encourage all applicants to ensure their original application is complete and reflective of their accomplishments and potential before submission.
