My Favorite Spot to Hang Out on Campus

As I frequently get asked while giving a tour of this campus, my favorite spot to hang out on campus is the one that has me sitting there daily for endless hours, contemplating my next homework assignment while listening to the Weezer cover of ‘No Scrubs’ on the speaker. This location is the dining hall.
What is so excellent about the dining hall as a hangout spot, you may ask? (And trust me, parents are always asking.) To me, it’s the fact that there is a seemingly endless loop of coming-and-going. As you come in, you may suddenly see a friend. Someone you know is somehow always at the dining hall. Conversations in that one section of rectangular wooden tables are always plentiful. You can easily get lost there for hours, alternating between bites of food and lively conversation with the wonderful people of the SUNY Purchase campus.
Having the ability to vote on what songs play there is another reason to stay even longer. When you request a song, you can’t help but appreciate the democratization of what will play next as your song receives upvotes and downvotes. It’s a little game, and the winner gets the reward of pleasing the dining hall with their impeccable music taste.
Why would you ever leave a place that can provide all the entertainment a burnt-out college student needs after their 15 discussion board assignments of the week? That’s the best part, you don’t have to leave. Swipe into the dining hall at 10 AM and stay there until 7 PM. Avoid all responsibilities. Take refuge in the comfort of striking up a conversation with someone you know. There’s always someone to talk to and something to do when you’re in the dining hall.
So, when I get asked about my favorite hangout spot on campus, I will only have one location pervading my mind. That location is the wonderful dining hall of SUNY Purchase.
