My Favorite Places on Campus

December 01, 2022

Due to Covid, I’ve only been on campus since the Fall of 2021. Over my few semesters here, I have spent the majority of my time in three particular places on campus, which have grown to be some of my favorite spots.

In the Fall of 2021, my roommate and I found out that we needed a space to study that was not our apartment. We would find ourselves relaxing and taking breaks too often, so we needed a spot in an academic setting to focus on our homework. The Einstein’s Corner, located in the Natural Science building, has become our go-to study/homework spot. We go late at night, around 9pm, and have often found ourselves staying there until 2am. There we have studied for philosophy midterms, written essays for theory classes, and practiced presentations. It’s a great space to go if you want a quiet, secluded area to focus.

One of the newest places I’ve grown to love is the Native Plant Garden. It’s located in the space between the Dance building and the Commons. They just recently completed the garden and have it decorated with different signs and, of course, many different plants to learn about. One of my favorites is the purple coneflower. When my friends and I visited, we saw many bumblebees, butterflies, and birds in the garden. This is a beautiful spot to relax and talk with friends at the painted picnic tables, read a book, and stargaze at night. If you want to stay up to date on the garden, you should follow their Instagram: @purchasecollegegarden .

Lastly, a very well-known spot is the Stood. It’s well-known for its weekend events and concerts. Some of my favorites in the past have been SK80’s (the Stood turns into a skating rink and they play 80’s music), 70’s night, and Culture Shock (Purchase Coachella). It’s a cool place to hang out with your friends at night. If you’re looking for a lively, music and dance-filled night—this is the place to be. You can always find various Purchase bands playing either on the mainstage or at Whitson’s. The Forum Art Space also showcases a variety of student works. I love that the Stood is completely student-run and is truly the heart of Purchase. Even if late night events aren’t your thing, the Stood has hours during the day when it’s more relaxed and not too crowded. They have different games you can play, or you can simply hang out on the couches.

No matter where you go on Purchase campus, you can always find a good spot for you. Whether it’s event spaces, outdoor hangouts, or study spots, Purchase has something for whatever you’re looking for.
