Welcome to Purchase, a unique place where you can you can try new things, explore your options, excel in your craft, and really get involved to make a difference. This session will focus on your campus experience and learning about doing as much as you can outside of the classroom.

Joining Our Community

As a new member of our community, you should be aware of all the resources available to you. During your time at Purchase, we encourage you to advocate for yourself, meet your deadlines, and utilize campus services and resources, which are here to support you if you feel stuck or overwhelmed.

During this session, you will learn the ways in which various offices on campus work to create an inclusive and open learning and living environment for students. Through presentations and discussions, the session will lay the foundation to help everyone better understand themselves and others and what Purchase actually means by Think. Wide. Open.

#RealiTea: Stories from Life in College
Humanities Building, Humanities Theatre

Everyone joins the Purchase community with different expectations, excitements, and fears for their college experience— and that’s what makes it great! During this interactive session, Student Orientation Leaders will share some of their experiences on campus and provide new students an opportunity to connect and reflect with one another.


4:00 - 4:30pm

Academic Plaza by the Clock Tower

Meet representatives from on- and off-campus resources who can answer your questions and help take care of unfinished business before you depart for the day. Light refreshments will be provided. Attendees who didn’t have a tour in the morning will be able to join one.


4:00 - 5:00pm

Residence Hall Viewing (Optional)
Residence Hall

Those interested in taking a peek inside a residence can visit a double room. Residence Life staff will also be available to answer questions. Only one residence hall is available for viewing today. All campus housing options are viewable via Virtual Tours on the Purchase website.

4:30pm-5:00pm

Speak with faculty from your respective schools to better prepare for your classes in the Fall. All sessions are optional except for the Art and Design session.

Staff from Health Services, Counseling & Behavioral Health Services, Office of Disability Resources, Community Standards, and the University Police Department will explain the services these offices provide and the ways they work together to keep Purchase students safe.

Parents and guests will enjoy lunch over casual conversation with other attendees. Tables will have suggested themed topics to use as conversation starters and encourage affinity group connections.

Students have a wide array of opportunities to engage in experiential education during their college years. Hands-on, high-impact activities are powerful tools to develop academic/self-identity, gain career insight, polish professional skills, and strengthen knowledge as students put classroom learning into practice.

We provide a wide array of support services to help students transition to college-level coursework and succeed academically. Hear tips and advice from staff available to assist if students struggle academically.

We have a wide variety of engaging social opportunities for your students to try new things and get involved. Whether they live on campus or commute, students will find a wide variety of clubs, student run services, and programs will help them develop and grow outside of the classroom. This session will highlight key social opportunities, residential offerings, commuter engagement, and dining options.


3:15pm - 4:00pm

Prepare for Launch
Humanities Theatre, Humanities Building

As students prepare to launch into their Purchase College careers, we will discuss some ways the lives of students, parents, and family members will be transformed. This interactive session will examine the factors necessary to ensure a smooth transition for everyone: defining success, learning to parent an adult, communicating effectively, and witnessing changes you may see in your students. Discover ways to support and connect with your students throughout the launch process.
