Based in her hometown of Atlanta, GA, Karl-Mary Akre is a first-generation Ivorian American filmmaker whose work centers Blackness in genre narratives of horror, mystery, and science fiction.
More About Me
She has been the recipient of various fellowships and labs, including the James A. Michener Fellowship, Torch Literary Arts, and the Athena Film Festival Writers Lab where she was a finalist for the 2021 Chinonye Chukwu Emerging Writer Award. Karl-Mary holds a BA in English and Film from Barnard College of Columbia University and an MFA in screenwriting and fiction from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas at Austin.
