Irene Porges
I am a true New Yorker – born in the Bronx and moved to Brooklyn as an infant, where I have lived most of my life. I received a BS in Art Education/Fine Arts and a graduate degree from Pratt Institute. I completed an MPA in Health Care Administration from NYU and an Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology from BMCC preparing me to become an Associate Professor in that field.
Because of a personal need I became a Medical Claims Advocate specialist and started a business. The New York Times wrote an article about it and it became very successful. My ability to think out of the box was a direct outcome of my college experience.
After retiring I returned to my art – collage and pastel work. I have traveled extensively. At 62 I joined the Peace Corps serving in Bulgaria for two years in business development – a life changing experience. I became a 9/11 First Responder with the Red Cross working at Ground Zero.
I have always wanted to go to a sleep away college, to experience campus life. For financial considerations I stayed with my parents while attending college. Broadview is finally giving me the opportunity to live on a college campus. It’s never too late.
