Peggy Stafford

Assistant Professor of Playwriting

Peggy Stafford grew up on a small island in the Pacific Northwest. Her play, 16 Words or Less, was produced in Clubbed Thumb’s 2014 Summerworks, and Motel Cherry (Clubbed Thumb/New Georges) was listed in the Huffington Post’s Top 10 Plays of 2012. Her work has been performed and developed at theatres across the country, including Playwrights Horizons, Soho Rep, Women’s Project, Naked Angels, Two River, Page73, Intar, Dixon Place, Bottom’s Dream, HERE, Annex Theatre, The Flea, Circle X, On The Boards, and Seattle Children’s Theatre, and at the Playhouse in Northern Ireland.

She was a member of Soho Rep’s Writer/Director Lab, which commissioned Little Miss 1565 through their Phase 2 program. Her play Wapato was developed with Women’s Project and opened their 2007 season. She’s currently writing the stage adaptation of Marguerite de Angeli’s Newberry Award–winning book, The Door in the Wall, for Seattle Children’s Theatre.  A MacDowell Fellow, she has received additional support from the Northern Ireland Arts Council, Rain City Projects, King Country Arts Commission, and The Chisholm Foundation. 16 Words or Less was nominated for The Kilroy’s 2014 LIST. A 2013 Audrey Resident at New Georges, Stafford is also a member of the Dramatists Guild, Clubbed Thumb Writers Group, and Machiqq.
