What is your favorite thing about being involved as a student leader on campus?

“My favorite thing about being involved as a student leader on campus is getting to meet other like-minded students and faculty. In the Global Scholars program I have gotten learn from a number of guest speakers, and in Purchase Leadership Committee Institute I have been able to learn from several professors across campus. Being exposed to so many different perspectives has shaped my own view of leadership, and sharing these experiences with other students who also have a passion for leadership has made it an even more rewarding experience.”

Why did you decide to get involved?

“I decided to get involved in these leadership programs to broaden my understanding of both domestic and globally focused communication. Being in the Global Scholars Program has allowed me to participate in programs like Soliya Connect and meet with international guest speakers, which have strengthened my understanding of intercultural communication. In Purchase Leadership Committee Institute I have been able to hone in on and develop interdisciplinary communication skills like public speaking, conflict management, productivity and grit.”

What is one piece of advice that you have for students who want to become involved on campus?

“One piece of advice I would give for students who want to become involved on campus is to put yourself out there and not be afraid to explore which leadership program is right for you. Take advantage of all of the different opportunities available to you and you will find who you are as a leader.”
