Arriving in the U.S.

Whether you have traveled before or this is your first time abroad, we strongly encourage you to read What to Expect at a Port of Entry with a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer - it provides information on the government agency and the process you will encounter upon arrival at the port of entry.

Refer to the New Student Check-list to make sure you have completed all the necessary action items and detailed arrival information.

Travel:

    • Air Border: travel with your passport, original I-20 Form, acceptance letter and supporting documentation (housing information, billing, or registration information) in your carry-on luggage.
    • Crossing a land border into the U.S: clearly state this is your first time entering the U.S. for purposes of F-1 student visa study and carry your passport, original I-20 Form, SEVIS fee receipt, and copies of financial documents you submitted to Purchase College. You will need to pay a $6.00 I-94 Processing Fee; be prepared with U.S. Dollars cash (not debit/credit) to pay for this.
