Derek Shane Garcia ’13 is an independent film producer, director, editor, and cinematographer from NYC whose latest feature film, A/way, premieres December 6, 2024 at the Dances With Films NY Film Festival in Manhattan.
The film tells the story of a travel journalist who suffers a profound loss and is then sent on assignment to Martinique, which sparks a candid reflection of her unsettled life.
Earlier in 2024, it won the Best Feature Audience Choice Award at the Festival of Cinema in NYC, and the Outstanding Narrative Feature and Outstanding Director of a Narrative Feature awards at the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival.
