Two From Purchase Star in Fresh Take on Chekhov

Parker Posey ’91 and Bill Sage ’88 star in The New Group’s The Seagull/Woodstock, NY.

The New Group presents The Seagull/Woodstock, NY, a fresh take on a Chekhov classic starring Parker Posey ’91 and Bill Sage ’88, by playwright Thomas Bradshaw and directed by The New Group’s Founding Artistic Director Scott Elliott.

Both play characters among a group of New York theatre people who retreat to the Hudson Valley, yet “they can’t seem to escape the ambitions, rivalries, and fragile egos that follow them everywhere.”

The show runs in a limited engagement through April 9, 2023.

“Chekhov’s sharp satirical eye for hypocrisy and self-absorption among well-meaning people is given fresh, fun emphasis as Thomas Bradshaw returns to The New Group with his contemporary reworking of a classic masterpiece.” (thenewgroup.org)

“This role was made for her in that the range of emotion that she has is amazing. There’s just such versatility. With Parker, it’s what is she going to say next?” he adds. “There’s another level of comedy because of what Parker has found in that performance.”
