A Note from President Peña

Dear Staff,

Last semester when I wrote my letter for the Professional Staff Council newsletter I had just started in my position as President of Purchase College. I remember how excited I was to have the opportunity to work with such a committed team of professional colleagues.

Now that I’ve had the chance to witness the extraordinary work that you are doing under some of the most challenging circumstances many of us have experienced in our professional or personal lives, I’m even more grateful to be here with all of you.

As we finish this unprecedented academic year, I want you to know that I see everything that you are doing on a daily basis. I recognize that the pandemic has made many of your jobs much harder and that many of our staff members are also balancing new demands at home.

I wanted to let you know that I’m truly grateful for your hard work, diligence, and dedication. Together you have protected our community, supported our students, and enabled us to have a successful semester despite the immense challenges our community faced.

Whether you volunteered to help administer pool testing, or provided technical, administrative, health, academic, and financial services support, your work has made a big difference in the lives of our students and in the lives of our community members.

Now that there is a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of rising vaccination rates and lower positivity rates, I look forward to continuing our work together and to having the opportunity to thank you in person in the coming months.

I wish you all a healthy, safe, and restful summer.
