Brandon Buffong ’21 Lands Internship Using Senior Project

Buffong selected for an amazing internship, Black Writers in Focus.

Brandon Buffong ’21 was selected as one of four to spend his summer in Los Angeles with a paid internship, fine-tuning a writing sample with a personalized mentor, attending panels and classes with industry leaders, and learning from the best by shadowing in a writers’ room.

Out of 446 submissions from 164 schools, Brandon was the only one of the four to have been selected based on a feature film script (his senior project!). The other three submitted teleplays.

The internship, Black Writers in Focus, is offered by Diverso, a nonprofit organization, by students and for students, dedicated to changing the face of entertainment by empowering the next generation of underrepresented storytellers.

Diverso has partnered with Rideback (Aladdin, It, The LEGO Movies) and the Writers Guild Foundation to create Black Writers in Focus: a paid summer internship program specifically geared toward Black student writers at an undergraduate or graduate institution.

The program is ade possible by sponsors: WARNERMEDIA, Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, MADISON WELLS MEDIA, Lin Manuel-Miranda’s MIRANDA FAMILY FUND, and Issa Rae’s HOORAE PRODUCTIONS

We’re super-proud of Brandon and this will be a huge step as he starts his post-Purchase career. Congrats!!
