Yeshe Sherpa ’19 Receives the 2019 Technos International Prize

A double major in Anthropology and Sociology, Yeshe was commended for her passion and commitment to intercultural communication and global issues.

Yeshe Sherpa is a double major in Anthropology and Sociology, on the Dean’s List, whose senior project is an in-depth study of the health seeking practices of Tibetan immigrants in New York City.  Her senior project advisor commented that her project “is so impressive that [she] will strongly encourage [Yeshe] to submit it to undergraduate conferences and student publications.”  Yeshe is fluent in four languages: English, Nepali, Hindi, and Tibetan.  She has already put her linguistic, anthropological and sociological skills to real-world use in the research and work she has conducted in India and Nepal, where she assisted Village Health Workers on agricultural, sanitation and education awareness, designed and implemented a women’s health program for village health workers, and taught English.  Following graduation, Yeshe will begin her position as Youth Development Facilitator in Morocco for the Peace Corps.

The Office of International Programs and Services congratulates Yeshe on her passion and commitment to understand and help others across the globe, and it is with the highest admiration that we award her the 2019 Technos International Prize for Outstanding Academic Performance and Commitment to the Cause of International Understanding.  Anne Kern, Dean for Global Strategy and International Programs, presented Yeshe with this award during the 2019 Student Awards Ceremony held at the Performing Arts Center, Recital Hall on Thursday, May 9, 2019.
