Amina Kearney ’14

awarded for her commitment to the arts and her role in her community

Before graduating from Purchase with a B.A. in PWSW, Amina Kearney was a student of The Art Effect (formerly Mill Street Loft + Spark Media Project). Since graduating from Purchase in 2014 Amina has been invited back to the Art Effect to teach media production. Kearney is now one of three honorees being celebrated at The Art Effect ceremony where videos created by some of the youth she teaches will be shown.

Amina’s students and her teachings range from 5th graders in after-school programs to high school teachers and administrators in professional development workshops. Kearney’s students are winning local awards and greatly benefiting from their education.

On top of all of this Amina is also on the Folk Arts Advisory Board for Arts Mid-Hudson and works as the Outreach Coordinator for her fathers masjid (Muslim Church), Masjid Al-Mutakabbir in the heart of Poughkeepsie.

This Purchase alum continues to branch out, learn, connect and make art wherever she can.
