Bryan Korn ’12: From Internship to Emmy Awards

Korn is writer and producer on the Netflix animated series Hilda, produced by Silvergate Media and winner of two 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards.

Bryan Korn ’12 (Dramatic Writing) landed an internship at Nickelodeon while in school. That internship brought him to Silvergate Media where Korn was later hired to work on children’s programming. Now Korn is now series producer and writer on the hit Netflix animated series Hilda produced by Silvergate.

In its second season, Hilda was awarded a 2021 Daytime Emmy® in the prestigious category of Outstanding Children’s Animated Series alongside an award for Outstanding Editing in a Daytime Animated Series.

The series also picked up nominations in three other categories and this latest win establishes a winning streak for the series, following close behind its recent triumph at the Annie Awards in April where it picked up three awards.

“I’m so proud of this amazing series—we set out way back in 2013 to develop Luke Pearson’s amazing indie comics into a fantasy adventure show with a kickass female lead and a commitment to the series emotional realism,” says Korn. “A lot of networks turned us down for that very reason, but we found a home with Netflix and impossibly were able to make exactly the show that Luke and we wanted to make.”

Korn also worked extensively on the sci-fi preschool series Octonauts, which airs on Disney Jr., and on the show Chico BonBon: Monkey With a Toolbelt.

Korn was a stand-out student in the Dramatic Writing program (now Playwriting and Sreenwriting). He has returned to Purchase to present his experiences in a “Conversations With…” talk.

He is also mentoring three PWSW senior projects in the 2021–2022 year.
