Purchase Alternative Service Trip

Purchase students will be traveling to Houston, TX to spend their spring break rebuilding Houston.

On April 1, twelve students from Purchase College will embark on an alternative service trip to Houston, TX with two staff members from the Office of Community Engagement

While in Houston, the students will be working with a local non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding homes that were effected by Hurricane Harvey when it struck Texas last August. Trip logistics and service projects were administered and coordinated by Break-a-Difference.

In addition to traveling to Texas, the participating students have been actively engaged in a bi-weekly class that focuses on service learning. Once the students return from Houston, they will be participating in a community presentation hosted on Wednesday, April 25 at 3:30pm in the Red Room.

This trip was organized by a working group of professional staff members in the Office of Community Engagement and made possible by a grant from the Purchase Student Government Association.
