The NYSED Great Potential Liberty Partnerships Program is committed to serving 330 middle and high school students in four diverse school districts in Westchester County (White Plains Mount Vernon New Rochelle and Peekskill). The program provides students at each of our local sites with critical thinking, study skills, necessary to persist and succeed in middle & high school and to prepare students for a productive, post-secondary educational experience. The program also equips program graduates with the necessary career development skills and exposure to succeed in the workforce.
Volunteer Opportunities
1. College for a Day
Volunteers will assist in reviewing the agenda and plan for the day. In addition, they will assist with greeting schools, students, and guest speakers and contribute to overall event management.
An opportunity for volunteers to make suggestions regarding overall implementation of the program and positively contribute to the lives of local middle and high school students.
Required: Meeting with Jacquelyn B. Smith, MS. Ed., Project Director, Liberty Partnerships Program, Purchase College Student Affairs/Office of Community Engagement, on the day of the event for an overview of the Liberty Partnerships Program and its value to the community at large.
2. Career Discussions
Working in groups of two or three, volunteers would visit middle or high schools (Site Director School Counselors would be present to monitor and control the group fully) to discuss their career journey as a source of inspiration for the GP LPP middle school or high school students.
There could be a pre-determined agenda (Introductions of Broadview Members and students, a set of questions each Broadview Member would answer, and then a question and answer period for the students.)
