Why I Chose Purchase

As a tour guide, there is a question that I get asked on almost every tour. This question is, “Why did you choose Purchase?” The first thing I always say when asked this question is, “Well, Purchase was, and still is, my top school.”
Ever since I first visited Purchase, I fell in love with the school: the overall vibe of the campus, the creativity that fills the whole campus, the way students choose to express themselves. As I continued my college application process, there were many other discoveries that made Purchase my top school: the fact that Purchase is so well known for all of its conservatory programs, the way I could tell by talking to different staff and faculty how much everyone cared, and the location’s proximity to the city.
I grew up in New York State, about two hours from New York City by train. When looking at colleges, I wanted a school close enough to the city so I could easily commute and have access to the city’s resources, but I did not want to live in the city. Purchase was the perfect location for me. I am a junior Theatre Design/Technology student, and due to being so close to the city, a lot of our professors are working on Broadway and in other NYC entertainment venues. This has been an opportunity for jobs, as well as seeing Broadway shows that my professors are working on.
During my past two years at Purchase, I have never once thought about going to a different school, or second-guessed if this school was right for me. It is my home. I love what I have learned so far, and look forward to continuing my journey.
