Mercedes Jelinek

Mercedes Jelinek’s photobooks These Americans and Lost: Spruce Pine were published by Kris Graves Projects; copies of the latter are held by institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Getty Research Institute. Her black-and-white portraits, sometimes extended through painting and collage, explore community, identity, and women’s experiences. Jelinek has exhibited nationally and internationally and taught in the United States and Italy, building a practice that moves between photography, education, and publishing.
