More About Me

Aya became a certified Lucid Body instructor in 2019 and has taught the technique at Lucid Body House, SUNY Purchase, T. Schreiber Studio, BNAW (Tokyo), and NAFHCO (the North American Federation of Healthcare Clown Organizations), among others.

Aya has been seen in devised works in London and New York, including Hold Music (Sightline Arts), a 2011 New York Innovative Theatre Awards nominee for Outstanding Performance Art Production. Her original clown act, Kiki and Ted, was nominated for the 2010 New York Downtown Clown Golden Nose Awards (Audience Choice: Best Clown Act).

Aya was one of the inaugural members of the Clown Gym’s Teaching Mentorship and was a resident teacher for its 10th season. In 2022, she joined the New York team of Laughter League as a healthcare clown, bringing joy and laughter to hospitalized children and senior citizens living with dementia.

Aya believes it is her mission to pass on the wisdom she has received through her training to future generations. Originally from Japan, she is especially passionate about making acting training more accessible to those who may face language barriers, emphasizing self-care, compassion, and playfulness.
