Andrew J. Rodriguez ’19

Andrew J. Rodriguez is an Afro-Dominican filmmaker from The Bronx whose work has been showcased at film festivals nationwide.

Rodriguez portrays the experiences of the underserved through nuanced, character-driven stories that move beyond the lens of pain and trauma to offer, he says, “a transformative, fresh perspective on their lives.”

In 2025, Rodriguez was awarded a $30,000 Vimeo Short Film Grant, presented by Nikon and RED Digital Cinema, to fund, equip, mentor, and distribute his latest cinematic project, Spaceboi.

That same year, his short film, El Tiguere (The Tiger), was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival and was among three short films selected by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s fellowship and filmmaking initiative, Colectivo, which provides emerging Latino filmmakers with funding, mentorship, and screening opportunities.
