Geoffrey G. Field

Professor Emeritus of History

Geoffrey Field, professor emeritus of history, has focused on 20th-century German and British history and European racism in his research and publications. His books include Blood, Sweat, and Toil: Remaking the British Working Class, 1939–1945 (2012), cited as “an essential text about Britain during the war” by the Journal of British Studies, and  Evangelist of Race: The Germanic Vision of Houston Stewart Chamberlain (1981), which won the Anisfield-Wolf Award for the best book on race relations in any discipline and an Outstanding Book of the Year Award from Choice. Field is a former chair of the New York Council for the Humanities and senior editor of International Labor and Working-Class History, and continues to serve on the journal’s editorial board.
