My work explores the oppression within the Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities. By means of video and performance art, I explore these topics through the usage of a fake company that consists of constructed characters and fictional narratives. The company T.S.A.R.A represents modern day colonization and the misrepresentation of Indigenous cultures that exists within museum spaces, the news, fashion, etc. T.S.A.R.A has taken the “Conconetes”, a fictional indigenous tribe found in the border of Haiti and Dominican Republic, and has claimed to be making them more “civilized” by Americanizing them. The main objective of these performances and characters are to show how one can mask these issues to the public. Using humor and discussion the importance of culture, I am able to critique these topics along with the people I interact with.
