The ANDROGYNE ARCANA: Illuminated Tarot of Gender Nonconformity is dedicated to the representation of those of us who do not fit into the cis-heteronormative, gender-binary molds of Western society. The tarot is one of many traditions affected by this ideology, that has and continues to overlook difference and gender variance in the depiction of its iconic characters. In order to break the gender binary, we must change the way we represent and perceive dualities. Light and dark, life and death, feminine and masculine; these are all things which coexist with each other and needn’t always be separated. When we look closely at nature we see this to be true.

The twenty-two cards in my Androgyne Arcana tarot deck are illustrated with an intent to subvert expectations of gender, femininity and masculinity. Rather it depicts the symbolic meanings of the tarot from an alternative perspective. The three images shown here are: The Lovers (Card #6) which represents partnership, making choices, and commitment; The Wheel Of Fortune (Card #10) represents luck, fate, and the changing of cycles; The World (Card #21) represents unity and harmony, and the ending of cycles.
