Elaine Galen

Associate Professor Emerita of Theatre Design/Technology

Elaine Galen, who taught at Purchase College from 1981 to 1997, has had her work exhibited in numerous solo shows, including museum exhibits at the Brooklyn Museum, Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, Neuberger Museum of Art, Tampa Museum of Art, Mississippi Museum of Art, and James A. Michener Museum in Pennsylvania, among others.

Her paintings and limited edition books are in the permanent collections of many of the above-mentioned museums, as well as the University of Arizona Museum, Tucson; Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Musee Rigaud, France; New York Public Library (Rare Books), National Liberty Museum of Philadelphia, and Wellesley College Special Collections, among others. Corporate collections include AT&T, Pfizer, Metromedia, Continental Grain, and many others.

In addition to Purchase College, she has taught at New York University, Columbia University, Manhattanville College, and Concordia College in New York; Ben-Gurion University and Kaye College in Israel; Lake Forest College and Prairie State College in Illinois; and in various workshops across the country.

Elaine Galen lives in Mt. Kisco, New York, with her husband, the noted abstract painter, printmaker, and publisher Ed Colker.
