Recap of the PSC State of the Union Address

Our PSC President Jessica Bullock gave the first State of Union address to the Purchase Community. In addition, there were a few brave staff members who gave performances and/or shared their artwork for display.

We would like to share some of her comments from the address:

“It’s about all of you—the STAFF who create the environment our students learn, grow, and thrive in. I like to start with gratitude, let’s pause to acknowledge the people doing them.

President Steiper - In just one year, your leadership, transparency, and willingness to show up—literally and figuratively—have had a meaningful impact on campus morale. You’ve brought a sense of energy and openness that has not gone unnoticed. Thank you.

To the Cabinet as a whole - thank you for supporting staff initiatives, listening to concerns, and showing that partnership matters.

And to Vice President Patty Bice—my Vice President, my role model, and someone who proves every day that the “little things” are actually the big things—thank you for your constant presence and commitment to our students’ success.

Last academic year we’ve seen increased engagement with PSC meetings.

Professional Development Committee launched the Tuesday Lunch Club—bringing departments together, one lunch at a time. We also hosted events like the cookie swap and competition.

However, the past year was not without its challenges. In fact, it was a long year—with very real obstacles, including infrastructure issues and that unforgettable winter freeze.

But what stood out wasn’t the problem—it was the response from our staff.

That is dedication. That is community. Every role matters. Every contribution counts.

So, when things get tough—and they will—remember your why. Remember the reason you chose this work, this campus, this community.

Lean on each other. Use your resources. Stay connected—whether through PSC, UUP, or even something like the walking club… because sometimes the best ideas come when you’re not sitting in a meeting.

What makes Purchase special is you—your creativity, your resilience, and your ability to make something meaningful out of what we have.

Thank you for everything you’ve done this year—and for continuing to show up for our students and for each other.

The event concluded with the Staff Got Talent performances, artwork, food, and a cake toast in the Student Services lobby.
