Fall Admissions Check In
It is a busy time here in Admissions as we prepare to greet our incoming class of fall 2026 and hit the road to meet our future students for fall 2027!
While many campus partners interact with our office throughout the year, they may not know the ins and outs of what our fall season looks like.
Here are some highlights of the Admissions team fall semester jargon:
Travel Season- typically referring to the period of travel completed during the fall semester (mid-September to mid-November) during which counselors will visit dozens of college fairs and high school visits each to discuss the benefits of the SUNY Purchase education and answer any questions that students may have as applications open.
If you plan to be visiting a high school, please let us know! We would love to give you some goodies for the road and make sure you are stocked with inquiry cards.
Inquiry Cards- information cards that prospective students fill out to indicate their interest in the college. Counselors will bring these during their travel season, but we also have some in office should your team need!
We always strive to collect student information for anyone visiting campus so that Admissions can follow up for support and guidance during the application process.
Student Ambassadors- aka ‘Tour Guides’. Our ambassadors hold down the fort during the fall semester and provide student tours showcasing the experience here at SUNY Purchase from their perspective.
If you have a student that you think would be a great candidate, please let us know! We hire for our new Ambassadors beginning in April of each year.
Tours- refers to the opportunities prospective applicants and their families can visit campus. Our tours run 6 days a week (Monday-Saturday) throughout the semester and provide a variety of opportunities to see campus facilities as well as dedicated tours to see arts spaces on Wednesdays.
If you see a tour on campus, please say hi! Our families love getting to talk to the faculty and staff that will be guiding their students in the future.
Open House: Our largest fall recruitment event providing prospective students and their families the opportunity to visit campus facilities and meet with current staff, faculty and students- sometimes even see a musical performance by our very own President.
This year Open House will be held on Sunday, November 8th. We can’t wait to see you there!
Reading Season: when the Admissions team focuses on reading and reviewing submitted applications and connecting with students that are incomplete to get them to submit needed documents. Begins on a smaller scale around mid-October but becomes a primary focus of the Admissions team starting in November. This is when we will see the bulk of applications come in and when we focus on providing decisions to our Early Action applicants by the start of the new year.
Early Action: available for non-Arts majors. This November 15th deadline allows students that apply to receive their admissions decision prior to the new year. A great way to celebrate the holiday season!
