Rising Star Award

In recognition of outstanding contributions and growth potential of a new professional staff member

Kristin Bruno-Bates, Director of Conferences and Events.
In just over two years Kristin has already significantly increased revenue through rentals and film shoots on campus and created pathways to continue this revenue stream. She guides the entire Commencement process and has made improvements to the parking and ticketing process mitigating the rising costs of this event. Kristin has plans to start an internship program to mentor students in event planning and expand the capacity of her department of one. 

Emily Tejada, Experiential Learning Coordinator and Career Coach in the Career Development Center.
In less than a year and a half on the job, she has gained the respect of colleagues, and students alike by her professionalism, her proactive outreach, and her commitment to student success and collaboration across departments. This year she was presented with the SUNY Career Development Organizations Rising Professional Award. We are proud to celebrate her on our own campus with a similar recognition.

Bridge Builder Award

In recognition of proven ability to foster collaboration among campus departments and groups

Christie Kennedy, Coordinator of Science Student Support Services in the School of Natural Sciences.
Honoring the need to take healthy breaks, she created an unofficial walking/running club at SUNY Purchase, providing colleagues, with a welcoming space to connect, recharge, and build relationships beyond their day-to-day contacts. In addition, she keeps the group informed about campus happenings and actively encourages participation in volunteer opportunities, helping to strengthen our shared sense of purpose. 

Greg Wharmby, Curatorial Manager of Art and Design.
Greg creates opportunities for people and departments to work together in ways that strengthen the educational experience for students and expand the reach of the arts across campus. For example, Greg brought the creative aspects of the Humanities into the Discovering the Arts course, so freshmen gain a wider understanding of what art can be. He works with students from Art History and Arts management so they can practice their scholarship and their developing skills in curating. That on top of being the coordinator of the many A+D exhibitions on and off campus. 

Leader of the Pack Award

In celebration of a professional staff member with 10+ years of service, who is a highly valued source of knowledge to the college

Joe Cloidt, Director of Counseling and Behavioral Health Services.
Joe’s leadership, expertise, flexibility and personality all work together to make him a formidable director. He is able to connect with anyone and everyone, by leaning into his love of sharing his knowledge and educating those he works with and beyond. He has worked hard to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, so that students see Counseling and Behavioral Health Services not as place for crisis situations but an accessible and resource that supports their overall wellbeing.

Alison Hublard Hershman, Costume Shop Supervisor in the Conservatory of Theatre Arts.
Alison’s expertise is built on an extensive professional career in costume work she pursued before coming back to her alma mater in 2005. Her professionalism, calm demeanor and mentorship helped Costume Construction and Design students succeed in their careers. She officially retired in June this year. Her lasting impact on the Conservatory, its students, and the broader Purchase community is a testament to a career defined by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering love of her craft.
