Documentary Class Visits DOC NYC

Students in Professor Sunita Prasad’s Intro to Documentary course at IFC in Manhattan for DOC NYC, North America’s biggest nonfiction film festival.

Students in Prof. Sunita Prasad’s Intro to Documentary course this year took a field trip to New York City for North America’s largest nonfiction film festival, DOC NYC.

Students attended screenings of Life After directed by Reid Davenport and True North directed by Michèle Stephenson, a former faculty member in the film BFA program. Both Davenport and Stephenson visited classes virtually in the following weeks to talk about their work.

The students made the most of this opportunity to interact with professional filmmakers in the field, asking questions about working with real people as participants in a film, navigating controversial subjects, and finding stories in archives.
