Staff Spotlight: Jenny Woods

Meet Jenny Woods, the newest member of the Office of Admissions.

Jenny Woods joined the team as an admissions counselor in February 2024. As a recent alum, Jenny provides further insight into the student experience and brings a true passion for Purchase College to her role.

We are excited to have her here in the admissions office and look forward to her contributions to the community moving forward. Welcome, Jenny!

Q: What initially made you look into/drawn to Purchase College and admissions?

A: I am a Purchase College alum, and the same thing which drew me to this school as a student, is also what drew me in as a professional. Purchase at its core is a place of creativity and free expression.

There is a sense of open mindedness and encouragement of individuality, which is shared amongst the student body and staff alike. I love working in my role at admissions so that I can help other free thinkers and creatives find a home here.

Q: What did you study/where? Where did you work previously?

A: I graduated Purchase College with a degree in playwriting and screenwriting. I also made a point to focus a lot of my studies around anthropology, another interest of mine, which I believe now serves me well in my current position.

Previous to this experience in admissions, I worked for Purchase in the capacity of a Summer Success Program supervisor, and this is really what made me realize I wanted to work in higher education. Additionally, I have worked as a social media manager for a lovely local comic book shop called Aw Yeah Comics!

Q: Tell us a bit more about your position.

A: As an admission counselor, I tend to work with the incoming student body. I travel to fairs and events, to talk to high schoolers in the nearby area who are considering going to college. I talk to them about our campus and let them know what the Purchase College community has to offer! Past this, I help to guide and evaluate all our existing applicants, to see who is going to be our next class of Panthers.

Q: What current projects or activities are you currently involved with?

A: I have more recently started working with our incoming EOP students! Through the Educational Opportunity Program, we can help get New York based students to achieve their higher education goals, so I am very excited to be working in this capacity right now.

Q: Are there future projects you are interested in collaborating on or those in the idea stage you are hoping to see to fruition?

A: I am excited about our new ACE Program. This is another program designed to help New York based students during their time here at Purchase College through a combination of academic and financial support. I’m a huge proponent of anything that makes higher education more accessible to people.

Q: What is a fun fact that people may not know about you?

A: In almost all of my down time, I crochet! Any completed projects that I have, I go on to sell at craft markets.
