Link to God’s Chosen People lecture
On September 30, 2021, Professor Joel Kaminsky examined how early Christians and ancient rabbinic Jews each adopted the concept of “chosenness” in the Hebrew Bible, as historically each group identified themselves as the true descendants of the Israelites. These approaches to chosenness both united and divided their communities.

Professor Kaminsky, PhD is the Morningstar Professor of Jewish Studies and Professor of Religion at Smith College where he teaches courses on the Hebrew Bible and on ancient Jewish religion and literature. In addition to his appointment in the religion department, he is also a member of the program in Jewish studies, ancient studies and archaeology.
