Professor David Grill Wins Fifth Emmy Award

The Television Academy announced the winners of the 2020 Primetime Emmy® Awards.

Congratulations to Associate Professor of Theatre Design/Technology David Grill, for earning his fifth Primetime Emmy® Award in the category of Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special for his work as a lighting director on the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show Starring Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

This was Grill’s tenth nomination and adds to his previous award wins in 2017, 2015, 2013, and 2002.

Ben Green ’15 (theatre design/tech) earned a nomination in the same category for his work as a lighting director on The Oscars® awards ceremony.

It was Green’s fifth nomination. He won two Emmys® for Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special in 2018 and 2019.
