A Tree Planted for Clean and Green Day
Each year we celebrate Clean and Green Day with a call for volunteers to plant flowers and trees to beautify our landscape.
This year, the ceremonial tree planting took place in the area near Big Haus and Terra Ve as several staff and students took turns shoveling dirt to cover the roots of a young redbud tree.
The group also planted pansies near the Admissions building and pansies and an additional redbud tree near the Dance building and the entrance to campus.
Chartwells provided light refreshments for the volunteers, but it was a zero food waste event, so all waste created from the refreshments were either recycled or composted.
Purchase College has long been committed to sustainability initiatives; President Schwarz was one of the first 151 signatories to the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment in April 2007.
